Celebrating the 19th Amendment

DWNC celebrated the historic signing and adoption of the 19th Amendment, the Amendment that, after decades of fighting, secured the Right to Vote for Women.

Nevada County has a special and unique connection to this milestone.Ellen Clark Sargent, a Nevada City resident, developed the language that helped to create the 19th Amendment. As a close friend of Susan B. Anthony, Ellen played an important role in women’s long campaign for suffrageand creation of the 19th Amendment. 

At our meeting, actor and beloved local talent Mary Baird will brought Ellen Clark Sargent to life, sharing with us from the perspective of the early 1900s and what it was like to help change the course of women’s rights.
