For our Saturday, August 1 meeting we will celebrate the historic signing and adoption of the 19th Amendment, the Amendment that, after decades of fighting, secured the Right to Vote for Women.

Nevada County has a special and unique connection to this milestone.Ellen Clark Sargent, a Nevada City resident, developed the language that helped to create the 19th Amendment. As a close friend of Susan B. Anthony, Ellen played an important role in women’s long campaign for suffrageand creation of the 19th Amendment. 

At our meeting, actor and beloved local talent Mary Baird will bring Ellen Clark Sargent to life, sharing with us from the perspective of theearly 1900s and what it was like to help change the course ofwomen’s rights. This special presentation will offer a moving opportunity to relive an historic event of lasting importance to all women. 

The meeting will be held at the Nevada County Media Center, 355 Crown Point Circle, Grass Valley. Doors will open at 10:00 a.m., and the program will begin at 10:30 a.m. The suggested donation is $15 at the door.
