Call meeting to order (Debbie)
- Introduction of Celebrating the 19th Amendment via Actor Mary Baird bringing Ellen Clark Sargent and friend of Susan B Anthony, to life.
Business Meeting
- Debbie called the business meeting to order at 11:41
- Approval of July minutes (Debbie)
o Motion made by Victoria Oliver and seconded by Shelley Frost
Treasurer Report (Sueann)
o Checking balance: $948.54
o Savings: $2,000.15
o Petty cash: $93
o Balance: $3,041.49
o Motion for approval of treasurer’s report made by Pat Aramendia and seconded by Adella Albiani
Committee sign-ups
o Debbie introduced new process for forming committees; each being chaired by an executive board member.
o She encouraged members to sign up for a committee. Clipboards on side table and committee information will be posted on website.
DWNC participation in the Nevada County Fair (Debbie, Sueann & Becki)
o Sharing booth with DCC
o Survey: regarding future events and speakers
o Drawing: tickets – first one is free, others are 1/each. Prizes are art, jewelry, picnic basket, and dog treat basket
o Merchandise: Canvas bags, T-shirts, buttons, and gift cards
o Training for those who signed up: was Thursday, July 30 at 6:00 pm
Discussion/Announcements
o July 4 Parade was a smashing success; tremendous public support
o Bridge Brigade needs volunteers
o Reconciliation Event, August 2 (Debbie & Cricket). Coordinated with NC Democrats. A professional mediator will coordinate the day designed to work in small groups to increase understanding between the two factions of the party – traditionalists and progressives
o The DCC meets 3rd Wednesday of the month
o Meet-Up (Sueann & Marlene). The August meeting was cancelled. Next meeting in September
Featured members of the month: Shelley Frost & Ann Gould
o Both speakers shared their backgrounds and what led them into volunteering with the Democrats.
o Shelley shared her appreciation and respect for animals, which led her to volunteer with Bay Area humane societies. She co-founded the Center for Animal Protection and Education and produced numerous videos and books. A true entrepreneur.
o Ann grew up on an almond farm in the Central Valley, followed by receiving her education at UCLA and then launching an expansive and international teaching career that took her all over the world – India, Egypt, Singapore, Peru and China.
Future meeting updates: September meeting with focus on healthcare needs for different age groups of women.
The September meeting will be moved to the second Saturday of the month to avoid conflict with Labor Day weekend/
